Komeil Ghasemi, losing to Turkish opponent in the freestyle wrestling final in the 125kg weight class, got the first silver medal of team Iran.

According to Caspian International News Agency, Komeil Ghasemi, our 125kg freestyle wrestler received Iran’s first silver medal in Rio Olympics.

Ghasemi, who had faced a difficult draw, in the first round and in a close match, defeated Korey Jarvis from Canada 5-2.

In the next round, Komeil grappled Abdelmottaleb from Egypt and overcame him 7-0, with a superior performance. Our wrestler from Juybar, wrestled against the tough Georgian opponent who had managed to defeat the Ukrainian wrestler. In this bout, Petriashvili was ahead 2-0 in the first period, but persistence and efforts of our wrestler changed the course of the game and in the end, Ghasemi qualified to the semifinals with the 4-4 result and because of greater points.

However, Ghasemi’s great job was in semifinals where he got 10 points from his American opponent in just 33 seconds and became the finalist. Komeil, first scored a fall on Dlagnev, and then with four consecutive rear throws bewildered his opponent and went to the final.
