Chehel Menbar Ceremony in Lahijan

In the Chehel Menbar ceremony which is held a few hours before the evening call for prayer, in the old neighborhoods of Lahijan, houses that had held eulogy ceremonies the previous year, put the Menbar (tribune) in front of their house, with a fire pan, a little rice, and two empty dishes. After dark, people pass by these menbars by 40 candles and 40 pieces of date plum. They light a candle in each of these fire pans, put a date plum in the dish, and take a little of the rice, and pray.
