Jabbar Kouchakinejad, in interview with Caspian International News Agency in Rasht, stated, “َAgriculture in Gilan with its remarkable capacity in terms of agricultural lands and rice fields, an important feature of this province”.
He added, “Gilan fulfills a large part of the country’s need for rice, and Iran has little need to import foreign rice”.
The representative of Rasht in the Assembly, stressing that the supreme leader had issued Iran’s 20-year vision plan a few years ago, added “according to this important plan Iran has to become self-sufficient in agriculture”.
Kouchakinejad added, “With supports from the government, we can become self-sufficient in producing rice, like we are in wheat production”.
He said that importing foreign rice is an old wound on the face of Iran’s national production, and stated, “Unfortunately, we are observing import not only of rice , but also of other products which have similar counterparts inside the country”.
Noting that tea farmers are still waiting for the government to pay their money, the representative of Rasht said, “The government shouldn’t put off paying the tea farmers’ claims”.
